Coke Side of Life / Moods

AKQA London asked us if it was possible to create four different versions of the "Bubbles" spot we did for "The Coke Side of Life " with Weiden and Kennedy for a screen saver they were developing. Each variation would represent a mood: Crazy Bubbles, Happy Bubbles, OK Bubbles, and Sad Bubbles, and each version or mood would have to loop infinitely to work with the screensaver, or as we now say Mood Saver. We told them to go ( *!%#! ) themselves, no actually we came up with a compromise. We said 5 million ought to do it. Yah? NO! We of course did it for the love of the bubbles. We used the original bubbles piece as a reference for the happy mood and went on to create the additional moods for each character. We continued the same cell frame animation technique on paper; frame by frame for days and days on end until our fingers and eyes bled. Once we made a continuous loop for each character, we ran into the problem of trying to make the entire group of characters loop together in a particular time bracket for each mood. Life's hard, but we worked it out because we're awesome and, more importantly, very pleased with how it all turned out. Lets do it again! But this time they'll all be singing in different languages for each mood! Now where's our 5 million at?
